Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka are usually easiest to visit in spring and autumn. April, May, October and November are often comfortable for walking, temples, parks and city sightseeing.
July and August can feel hot and humid, while winter is colder but still practical for city travel.
Hokkaido has colder winters and cooler summers than much of Japan. Winter is strong for skiing and snow festivals.
